Administrative / Biographical History

Edward Ballard, born in Islington in 1820, studied at University College medical school, London (MB 1843, MD 1844). He was a medical tutor at University College from 1853 until his death, but also held a number of public health appointments, including medical officer of health in Islington, 1859-1871, and medical officer of the local government board, 1871-1892. His publications included works relating to digestion and diseases of the abdomen.
