Scope and Content

The collection is made up of one bundle of documents. Most of the documents are typed sheets containing abstracts of wills, apparently copied from the originals held by the Archdeaconry of Nottingham. The details abstracted include the name of the testator, the date of the will, the details of bequests, the name of the executor, and the date of probate.

The bundle also contains some handwritten abstracts, presumably from wills held elsewhere, and some letters from Mr Clarke relating to his research, dated 1936.

A cover sheet describing the contents of the bundle is signed by F. Wadsworth, Registrar of the Archdeaconry of Nottingham.

Administrative / Biographical History

Mr A. Bernard Clarke was a Vice-President of the Leicestershire Archaeological Society from at least 1953 to 1976. Frederic Arthur Wadsworth (1871-1943) was a Nottingham solicitor, historian and antiquarian, and librarian to the Thoroton Society. He was Registrar of the Archdeaconry of Nottingham from 1918 until his death.
