Correspondents include George John Whyte-Melville [Scottish novelist and poet], George Augustus Sala [journalist], Chevalier Bunsen [German diplomat and scholar], and Alexandrine Auguste of Mecklenburg-Schwerin [Queen of Denmark].

Also includes a souvenir postcard with dinner menu for the S.S. Otranto, featuring the signature of Juan Vicente Gomez [President of Venezuela]; a pencil drawing of Sir Thomas Lawrence [President of the Royal Academy]; a poster advertising the sale of volume eighteen of Sir Walter Scott's Waverley Novels; and a manuscript with notes on Roman sculptures [author unknown].
