The bound books listed in the catalogue are dispersed throughout Aberdeen University Library (principally classmark "345" and classmarks"34" - "341" in the general collection) with any early or rare volumes deposited in Special Libraries and Archives.

GB 231 MS 2785 Small collection of personal papers relating to the research and publications of Francis de Zulueta (1878-1958). The collection comprises photographs, transcripts, notes, and memoranda, of and re., early legal manuscripts; drafts, supplements, and typescripts of various papers and publications, including The Liber Pauperum of Vacarius, ed. by Francis de Zulueta, Selden Society Publications, 44 (London: Quaritch, 1927), and Don Antonio Augustin, 8th lecture of the David Murray Foundation, Glasgow, Aug 1939; offprints of Zulueta's publications, with some related correspondence and comment from scholars; misc. correspondence with colleagues and others re legal manuscripts, research and publications.

Administrative / Biographical History

Francis de Zulueta (1878-1958) was the son of Senor Don Pedro de Zulueta, sometime Secretary of the Spanish Embassy in London, and Laura Mary Sheil, daughter of Sir Justin Sheil, KCB. He graduated from New College, Oxford, c 1902, and after fellowships in several of the Oxford Colleges, became Regius Professor of Law at All Souls College, Oxford, 1919-1948. He received honorary doctorates from the University of Aberdeen and the University of Paris.

He specialised in, and published several works on, ancient Roman law, including Patronage in the Later Empire, Oxford studies in social and legal history, 1 (Oxford, 1909); The Liber Pauperum of Vacarius, Selden Society Publications, 44 (London: Quaritch, 1927); The Roman Law of Sale (Oxford: Clarendon, 1945); and Institutes of Gaius (Oxford: Clarendon, 1946).
