Custodial History
The library wrote to all the political parties which were registered to contest the elections, many of which donated a selection of their publications and other materials. A number of South African libraries donated duplicates from their own collections. The South African Friends of the Bodleian collected on the library's behalf, as did many individuals. The library also purchased a considerable quantity of material, including many of the posters, through one of its regular South African book suppliers. The decision was also taken to collect non-party material and some older material where this was deemed relevant to the election process.
