Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The Mulberry Club was formed in 1830 by a group of Shakespearian scholars with aim of commemorating Shakepeare's life with an annual festival to be held on his birthday. It was presumably named after the mulberry tree which Shakespeare is reputed to have planted in his garden at New Place, his Stratford home and which was famously cut down in 1756.
