Administrative / Biographical History

Robert Burness (1873-1927) was born in Edinburgh. Educated at the University of Edinburgh, he then went on to Merton College, University of Oxford. Burness settled in St. Petersburg in the early 1900s. He taught and travelled in Russia before the First World War. He was the English tutor of Vladmir Nabokov.
