Phyllis Merriman trained as a church worker at The College of the Ascension, Selly Oak, during the 1950s. She was subsequently stationed at St Peter's Hostel, Canning, India and worked mainly in the Calcutta region. Whilst working in India she sited and dug wells, worked with children in schools, acted as midwife, and supported the activities of local priests and bishops. She died in 2006.
