Diaries relating to his service in South Africa, Uganda and the Seychelles, with albums of photographs of South Africa and Uganda, and letters, invitations, and photographs relating to his governorship of the Seychelles (1935-1936).

Administrative / Biographical History

Arthur Evelyn Weatherhead (1880-1956) enlisted in the South African Constabulary in 1900 and received a Commission in 1902. He resigned in 1907 and the following year was appointed as District Superintendent of the Uganda Police Force. He remained in Uganda for almost three decades, holding the posts of Assistant District Commissioner (1911), District Commissioner (1916), Director of Labour (1925), Provincial Commissioner (1926), acting Chief Secretary to the Government (1932-1933), member of the Executive Council (1934), and acting Governor (1935). In 1935 he was appointed as acting Governor of the Seychelles (1935-1936). Weatherhead was awarded the CMG (1934) and MBE (1943); served as a Justice of the Peace in Somerset, England; and was a member of the Royal Empire Society.
