John Hastings Eastwood was a Presbyterian Minister based in Penrith, Cumbria and later at Christ Church, Wallington, Surrey. He was born in 1876, his birth registered in the Liverpool district in the first quarter of 1876.
Reverend Eastwood came from a Liverpool family connected with the Cotton Exchange. His maternal grandfather, John Hastings, was a distinguished citizen of Liverpool, remembered for having first proposed the use of island refuges in busy roads to help pedestrians, a development adopted by the Town Council in 1861.
Reverend Eastwood married Jessie Rose Wallace, of Scottish origin, whose maternal grandfather's name was Ireland, a Dundee family. Their marriage was recorded in the West Derby (Liverpool) district in the second quarter of 1903.
In 1931, at Wallington, Reverend Hastings Eastwood conducted the marriage ceremy of his daughter, Janet Hastings Eastwood (1904-1990), and Professor Harold Everard Monteagle Barlow FRS (1899-1989), physicist and electrical engineer; the couple had four children: Colin, David, Neil and Lindsay.
