Scope and Content

1 Lord John la Warre, kt, lord of Swynesheued. 2 Thomas Jay of Swynesheued. Demise for 20 years of one salt-pit with floor adjoining in Swynesheued, lying between the land of the abbey and convent of Swynesheued on the east and the salt-floor which John Freston holds from 1 on the west and le Salt Ce [?Quay] on the south; covenants relating to the competent building of one new salt-pit on the mound of the aforesaid salt-pit before next Christmas according to a plan decided between 1 and 2 and for the construction of which 1 has paid 2 a sum of money in hand, the maintenance of the said salt-pit and all the area of land called Mugdore above the said floor by competent use, and safe haulage on behalf of 1, back and forth with cart-horses and waggons from Wiktoft marshes or elsewhere as far as the sea as often as required during the aforesaid term. Annual rent: 7 measures of salt. Dated at Swynesheued. Latin.
