Diary of Jane Large of Devon

The personal diary of Jane Large of Devon for the year 1848, kept in "Richards's Universal Daily Remembrancer". The entries give detailed information about her daily activities and those of her family. She also records the illnesses suffered by her husband, and her worries about him, as well as her concerns about her son's career and his poor communication with his parents.

It is possible to piece together some facts about Jane Large and her family from information in the diary entries and from the International Genealogical Index. She records her birthday, and those of members of her family. She is 58 on 17 November 1848, and her husband is 62 on 8 July 1848. They have been married for 39 years on 14 December that year. She lives near Bideford in Devon, with her husband, when he is not away on business as a commercial traveller, and with her daughter Louisa, who is 21 on 17 August. She also has a son, called Edmund, aged 24 on 11 October, who lives away from home. Records of the baptism of Edmund Felton Large at Bath Abbey on 11 November 1824 and of the baptism of Louisa Jane Large on 18 September 1827, also at Bath Abbey, are recorded in the International Genealogical Index. Their parents are listed as William Stratton Large and Jane Large.
