Administrative / Biographical History

The association was constituted on 11 Dec 1837, at a meeting held in Gordon's Inn, New Deer, Aberdeenshire, between farmers and others interested in promoting the agricultural interests of the parish. The main business of the association was the organisation of regular ploughing matches, an annual corn competition held in March, and an annual cattle show held in July, at which members competed for prizes. A motion to wind up the association was passed at a special general meeting held in Wood's Inn, New Deer, on 20 Feb 1845, at which time it was resolved to form a new association with similar interests within 6 months.
