Scope and Content

Whereas a marriage is shortly to take place between Thomas Dod of Whittlesford and Jane Turner daughter of Richard Turner of Thaxted, Essex; Thomas Dod in consideration of a marriage portion and jointure agrees that he and his heirs shall convey to Richard Turner and his heirs one half of the rectory of Whittlesford with the land and appurtenances belonging to the use of Thomas Dod and Jane Turner, then to their heirs, in default to the use of the heirs of Thomas Dod. Richard Turner agrees to pay a certain sum as marriage portion. Witnesses: Edward Smyth, Mary Smyth, Richard Turner junior. On the back is a receipt for the first portion of the sum named signed by Thomas Dod. Witnesses: the same.
