Scope and Content

Seven volumes consisting of a collection of original papers relating to ecclesiastical and civil affairs in Great Britain and Ireland from 1585 to 1724, chiefly owned by, and many written to, Archbishop Gilbert Sheldon in about 1660-77.

Acquisition Information

The Library bought the volumes from Sir John English Dolben of Finedon in Northamptonshire for 40 5s in 1824. His great uncle was Archbishop John Dolben (d 1686), who married a niece of Archbishop Sheldon.
