Scope and Content

A gift of a house lying within the town of Hardelech (Harlech), Merioneth. The parties named are David Lloide ap Hoell ap Llewelyn ap Maredudd and David ap Robert ap John.

Administrative / Biographical History

The town of Harlech is situated on the coast of Merioneth, Wales. Here, a castle was built by order of Edward I in 1283. According to The Oxford Companion to the Literature of Wales, Harlech became the capital of Glyndwr's Principality and a parliament was held there. In 1408, however, the castle was recaptured by English forces.
