Administrative / Biographical History
A 12th century chanson de geste, celebrating the union of France under Charlemagne, by Bertrand de Bar-sur-Aube, French poet. A vassal of Charlemagne, Girart, holds Vienna against him, and stalemate ensues in the siege until a challenge between champions is suggested - Roland for Charlemagne and Olivier for Girart. However the champions are reconciled by an angel bringing down a cloud between them and commanding them to stop the fight.
