Scope and Content

Dr Arthur Maude's translations into English prose and correspondence:

  • Translation of the Poetae Venatici by Calpurnius, Nemesianus and Gratius Faliscus, with explanatory notes
  • Translation of Epitoma Rei Militaris by Vegetius with a copy of the original, edited by Charles Lang, Leipsig, Teubner (1868)
  • File of letters to Alan H. Maude and other correspondence including B.H. Liddell Hart relating to finding a publisher for Dr Arthur Maude's work, 1934-1936

Administrative / Biographical History

Dr Arthur Maude of Forest Edge, Forest Row, Sussex was a brother of Miss Mary Maude, a superintendent of women students at the University of Wales, Bangor from 1893 to 1901. During the 1930's Dr Maude and his nephew Alan H. Maude of Petworth, Sussex tried unsuccessfully to find a publisher for Dr Maude's poetical translations.
