Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The Scottish Joinery & Door Manufacturers' Association was formed in 1943 . The association had pricing and publicity committees. The Association decided on prices until their price lists were abolished in the 1950s due to the influence of English competition in the trade. The window price list was removed in 1959 due to the Restrictive Trade Practices Act which prohibited fixing. The organisation was small and did not have the facilities to undertake research into the design and development of joinery items, but through liaison with the English Joinery Manufacturers' Association, it was able to benefit from their research. TheBritish Woodwork Manufacturers' Associationreplaced the English Joinery Manufacturers' Association in 1961 . The Scottish Joinery & Door Manufacturers' Association was wound up with effect from 31 May 1983 .
