Henry Theophilus Johnson was born 24 Nov 1855, at Plymouth; studied at Cheshunt College; appointed to the London Missionary Society's Betsileo Mission, Madagascar; ordained 4 May 1881; married Henrietta Kate Widger on 7 May 1881; sailed 27 May 1881; arrived in Natal, 23 Jun and at Tananarive, 4 Aug, where he proceeded to Fianarantsoa, arriving 21 Sep; for forty years, he was stationed at Fianarantsoa, had charge of one of the churches in that town, and of the extensive country district connected to it; in May 1890, he took temporary charge of the Theological Seminary; Mr and Mrs Johnson returned to England at the end of 1919, and in 1921, he retired from foreign service; Mr Johnson died on 18 Mar 1939, and Mrs Johnson died on 26 Feb 1941.
