The Rt. Revd. Peter H.H. Howes (fl [1903]-1997) studied for the Anglican ministry at Kelham Theological College in 1929 and became a missionary with the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel. From 1937 he served in Sarawak, working with the Bidayuh (Land Dayaks). From 1957 to 1960 he was seconded to the Colonial Government to become Officer-in-Charge of the Padawan Community Development Scheme operating among the Land Dayaks of the Upper Sarawak River on the border with West Kalimantan. In 1976 he was appointed Assistant Bishop of Kuching before retiring in 1981. His published works include Shun nyamba nang. A collection of Land Dayak stories (London, Macmillan and Co., 1952) and In a fair ground (London, Excalibur, c1994).
