Scope and Content

Amongst the papers of John Wordsworth, Bishop of Salisbury, who was an active official of the Society, are papers concerning affairs not connected with the Anglo-Continental Society.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Anglican and Foreign Church Society had its origins as the Anglo-Continental Society, which was founded in 1853 to make known the principles of the Church of England, to promote the internal reformation of national churches, and to prevent infidelity. The later name was adopted in 1904, upon amalgamation with the Association for the Furtherance of Christianity in Egypt.
