Esmond Wright was born on 5th November 1915  in Newcastle, England. He later went on to study an MA at the University of Virginia, winning a Commonwealth Fund Fellowship in 1938. He graduated with his MA in 1940  , and it was presented to him by President Franklin Roosevelt himself. He then went into the army as a private and began lecturing troops on political issues and left the army after the war as a lieutenant colonel. He taught at the University of Glasgow , Scotland, from 1946 and in 1957  he was created Professor of Modern History. Wright's passion was to teach American History. He held this post until 1967 when he then resigned and became an MP for the Conservative Party in Pollock, Glasgow. He lost the seat in 1970  , but he had already become a popular figure in television and radio commentating on political agendas. Esmond Wright wrote several books including The Amercian Guide to Britain (1987), and Ancient World (1984).
