Scope and Content

Papers relating to the life and work of Dr Norman Corkill, as a Doctor and Health and Hygiene advisor in various parts of the Middle East, including his reports on the health and hygiene situations of Saudi Arabia in 1948, Palestine in 1951, Eastern Aden in 1953, Iran in 1963 and Abu Dhabi in 1964; his diary and an incomplete draft of his autobiography, correspondence and a printed bound report entitled 'A Nutritional Economic Survey of Wartime Palestine, 1942-1943'.

Born 11 June 1898, son of William and Bessie Corkill. Educated Liverpool Institute & Liverpool University. Served King's (Liverpool) Regiment, 1915-19. MB, Ch.B (Liverpool) 1925; MD (Liverpool) 1936. Iraq Health Service 1927-1930; Prof. Of Zoology, Royal College of Medicine of Iraq; Civil Staff Surgeon, Baghdad; Sudan Medical Service, 1930-1946; Sudan Defence Force & RAMC, Miralai and Lt.-Col., 1940-1944; MOH, Khartoum, 1944; Asst. Director (Public Health) SMS, 1945-1946; Senior Lecturer, Tropical Hygiene, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, 1946-1948; Quarantine Expert, Saudi Arabia, 1948-1950; Short Term Consultant in Nutrition, World Health Organisation (WHO), 1951; Health Adviser, Aden Protectorate Health Service, 1951-1952; World Health Organisation (WHO) Nutritionist, Tehran, 1962-1963. Married 1930 Phyllis Lavis - 2 sons. Died 26 September 1966.
