Administrative / Biographical History

The South West Africa People's Organisation (SWAPO) is a political party and former independence movement in Namibia. It was founded in Windhoek, South West Africa (presently Namibia) in April 1960 by Herman Toivo ja Toivo. SWAPO was originally formed to advocate for Namibia's independence from South Africa. Following independence in 1990, it became the country’s leading party.
