Administrative / Biographical History
Major Alan Saunders, MC (1917), OBE (1932), was born in 1886. In 1906 he joined the Indian Police Force; his career was interrupted by the First World War during which he served in France, Flanders and Palestine (1914-1920) and was mentioned in despatches three times. After the war, Saunders returned to his career in the police, subsequently holding the posts of Deputy Inspector General of the Palestine Police Force (1926), Commissioner of the Nigerian Police Force (1936), and Inspector General of Police and Prisons in Palestine (November 1937).
