Papers of the Salvins concerning property at Sunderland Bridge and many other places in Co. Durham, Yorkshire and London. Also concerned are Cheshire, Derbyshire, Essex, Kent, Lancashire, Sussex, Westmorland and briefly France and the Dutch East Indies (Curacao). The properties and marriage settlements within the collection relate to the descendants of the Anthony Salvin (d. 1709), with some earlier material.
The documents are concerned mainly with title to property, deeds, abstracts, marriage settlements, wills, receipts and papers about legacy payments and administration of estates, shares, tax, lawyers charges, legal papers and awards, opinions. There is a group of pedigrees and a set of notebooks compiled in the late nineteenth century containing genealogical information on the Salvin family. There is, however, little personal material, and no architectural papers of Anthony Salvin or scientific papers of Osbert Salvin.
