Administrative / Biographical History

Albert Thomas Matson (1914-1987) was born in Sipson, Middlesex. He attended Southall Grammar School, and joined the Royal Army Medical Corps in 1939. In 1944 he was appointed Health Inspector for the Colonial Service in Kenya, based initially at Kisii. From 1949 until his retirement he worked in Nandi District. Matson developed an interest in East African history, and contributed articles to the 'Kenya weekly news' and other periodicals. He retired at the age of 48 to focus on his writing, and settled in Seaford, Sussex. The first volume of his work 'Nandi resistance to British rule' was published in 1972. Matson died on 16 September 1987.
