Penrhyn Fishing Club Papers

Penrhyn Fishing Club material consists of minute books, deeds and plans of the riverbanks. Minute books cover the club's general and committee meetings for the years 1933-1963. Leases include details of the terms, conditions and rent. Also includes a letter, dated 1991, from P.I.A. Collinson, representing the Penrhyn Estate to C.M. Bate who was club secretary, informing him that because part of the Estate had been transferred by Lady Janet Douglas Pennant to Richard C.H. Douglas Pennant, the fishing rights would henceforth be administered as part of the Penrhyn and the nearby Cochwillan Estate.

Between 1933 and 1991, Penrhyn Fishing Club of Bangor, Gwynedd, leased fishing rights from the Penrhyn Estate, the family seat of the Pennants, who were formerly prominent in the slate mining industry of north Wales. The arrangement allowed the club fishing rights to the banks of the River Ogwen, between the Tal-y-bont Bridge and the Halfway Bridge and between Pont Twr Bridge and the Ceunant Bridge, near Bethesda, in the parishes of Llandegai and Llanllechid, Gwynedd. From 1991, as a result of changes in the Penrhyn Estate, the fishing rights were administered as part of the Penrhyn and the nearby Cochwillan Estate. Penrhyn Fishing Club is still active at the time of this compilation.

Material is arranged in chronological order and incorporated into the General Collection of Bangor Manuscripts .
