Ibrahim Pasha Letters

Copies of 84 letters from Ibrahim Pasha to Menlikli Ahmad Pasha, governor of Adana, chiefly concerning the military administration of the region, in particular the control of supplies, appointment of officers, training of recruits, apprehension of deserters, etc.

Ibrahim Pasha (1789-1848) was the eldest son of Muhammad 'Ali Pasha, Viceroy of Egypt. From 1832 to 1840 he was head of the Egyptian military and civil administration of Syria, Palestine and Lebanon. The recipient of the letters, Menlikli Ahmad Pasha (ca.1795-1862), had been one of Ibrahim Pasha's chief commanders during the Syrian campaign and served as governor of Adana from 1835-1836.

The letters are arranged chronologically.

Before granting access the University must be satisfied that the documents are needed as a serious and necessary source of information, and researchers must sign a written agreement. All requests for photocopies must be approved by the Mohamed Ali Foundation.
