Administrative / Biographical History

he Universal Christian Council was founded in Stockholm in 1925 at an inter-church conference. The committee originally a continuation committee of the Stockholm Conference (re. a reunion of Stockholm delegates), then it broadened out into a British section of Life and Work and in c. 1930 was restructured into a body known as the Christian Social Council of Great Britain and Ireland.

In 1935 it amalgamated with the World Alliance for International Friendship (through the churches) (British Section) (WAIF) to become the British Christian Council for International Friendship, Life & Work (BCCIFLW).
