Administrative / Biographical History

In 1883 the estates of the Earls of Mount Edgecumbe consisted of 13,288 acres in Cornwall and 4,935 in Devon, worth 24,181 per annum. At the time of the sale, the estates were held by Piers Alexander Hamilton, 5th Earl of Edgecumbe (1865-1944) who lived at the family seat, Mount Edgecumbe, near Devonport, Devon. The lands sold comprised 6,600 acres.
