Administrative / Biographical History
Sir Robert McAlpine & Sons (Scotland) Ltd was incorporated as a limited liability company in 1938 with registered offices in Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire, Scotland. The company had a share capital of £100,000 with the shares divided between the companies directors: William Hepburn McAlpine, Sir Malcolm McAlpine, Sir Alfred McAlpine, James McAlpine, Robin McAlpine and R Edwin McAlpine. David and Malcolm McAlpine, and James Bryden were also appointed as directors at the first meeting of the company. The company was established to manage the Scottish business of their parent company, the partnership Sir Robert McAlpine & Sons , civil engineering contractors, London, England, with whom the company shared offices and staff. Plant and staff were hired from the parent company. The company was still in operation in 1941 when they moved registered offices to Osborne Street, Clydebank, but nothing is known about the company after this date.
