Scope and Content

The collection includes sermons, novels, and essays, some of which were composed for entry in Eisteddfod competitions between 1912-1925. One group of items, described as belonging to Mrs L.M. Thomas, the wife of the Rev. Morris Thomas, consists of songs and stories for children, a short play, essay and novel.

The majority of these are written by either Richard Morris the elder of Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog, Denbighshire or Richard Morris the younger, but there are also a few from family members in the United States. Copies of the letters of Richard Morris the elder to Mary his daughter when she was in service in London, 1850-1855 were copied by Mrs Denton Davies of Rhyl (later Mrs Edwards of Croesoswallt).

The papers once owned by the Rev. Henry Hughes of Bryncir relate mostly to the history of the Calvinistic Methodists of the Llyn and Eifionydd district with notes and records regarding specific chapels. Also the notes of the Rev. Morris Thomas on the Rev. Henry Hughes.

There are copies of miscellaneous letters by such people as John Elias, and Robert Jones, Rhoslan and a pedigree of the Elias family of Plas-y-Glyn, Anglesey.
