Administrative / Biographical History
John Williams (1882-1964) was the son of Captain Robert Williams. He was born in Port Dinorwic but later moved to Caernarfon. He practised as a solicitor with W. T. Henwood and Co. and retired just before WW2. Among the offices he held were Town Clerk of Caernarfon, Caernarfonshire Joint Sanitary Committee, secretary of Llanbeblig Parochial Church Council, Honorary Secretary of Caernarfon Church Guild and also a member of the Church in Wales. He was also keen on the local history. St. Mary's Chapel dates from early 14th century. It was built against the town walls and the tower at the North-West corner became the church vestry. The Caernarfon Church Guild was a social organisation for the members of the Church in Wales in Caernarfon. Caernarfonshire Joint Sanitary Committee was set up under article 4 of the Order of Local Government Boards of 1876.
