John Redwood Anderson Correspondence

Contains seven autograph letters and a postcard addressed to Richard E Blackshaw at 420 East Main Street, Streator, IL, USA. The letters discuss Lascelles Abercrombie, Wilfred Gibson and other poets, Redwood Anderson's own poetry including his collections 'Dyfrdwy'; 'The Pursuit of Diarmuid and Graunia', and 'Triptych', and his travels to South Africa in 1951-1952.

Also includes a printed copy of Anderson's poem 'To the Dyfrdwy: The River I love ' inscribed to Blackshaw and dated 'South Africa, 3rd Aug. 1951', and a reprint copy Anderson's 'My friend is dead: An elegy on the death of Lascelles Abercrombie'.

John Redwood Anderson (1883 - 1964), the poet, was born in Salford in 1883. He spent much of his life in Hull where he was the English master for the Junior School at Hymers College [1916-1942]. Following his retirement from teaching he moved to Wales, and then to London. One of his best-known works is the play/poem 'Babel' which was first published in 1927 and re-published in 1936 as 'The Tower to Heaven' in a revised version for the stage.
