Irish Minstrel of Dundalk Built and launched (sideways) on the 16th Dec. 1879 by John Connick, Shipbuilder, Dundalk, for R.L Brown, Dundalk, as a two mast brigantine, later converted to a three mast topsail schooner.She made many foreign voyages to as far as South America but mainly traded to Dundalk with coal, timber and slates from UK ports. In 1899 she, for a short period reverted to a two mast Brigantine when sold to Richard Griffiths, Fron Dulas, Amlwch, Anglesey and reg. at Beaumaris. In 1920 she was sold to James Lamey (the Liverpol tug owner) and reg. in Chester. About 1935 sold to Wadsworth Lighterage & Coaling Co Lim; Liverpool and reg. in Livrpool. Cut down and used as a storage and coaling barge in he Mersey. 1962 Scraped by burning on Tranmere beach, Merseyside, "the last Dundalk built ship"... 83 years afloat !! Official no. 76253, head--man's figure. 99'.1'' x 25'. 0'' x 11'.4''. 153.91 gt. 135.88 rt. Masters 1880 to 1899-- Captains --John Ferguson, McFerran, and Biggerstaff, all Dundalk.
