Memoranda and papers of the Royal Commission on Electoral System. The commission's report and evidence were published as Cd 5163 in British Parliamentary Papers 1910 volume 26:

  • Section Ia. Preliminary matter (typewritten).
  • Section Ib. Papers and memoranda covering Great Britain and Ireland, New Zealand, Queensland, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia (typewritten, mimeographed, printed).
  • Section II. Papers and memoranda covering Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France and Sweden (typewritten).

Administrative / Biographical History

The Royal Commission on Electoral Systems, donated by William Pember Reeves (1857-1932), a member of the commission. The purpose of the commission was to: '...inquire into the machinery and methods of parliamentary elections and to consider proposals for making them simpler, less costly, and more effective for securing full representation on the basis of the existing electorate'.
