Scope and Content

Schedule of papers, mainly accounts, relating to the George Hotel, 1872-1899. Particulars and plan of the George Hotel to be sold by auction on 7 April 1877.

Administrative / Biographical History

In a newspaper article, R. Idloes Owen wrote, The George Hotel (Bangor, north Wales), formerly known for a period as the George and Dragon, was originally known as the Bangor Ferry Inn. Built about 1776, above the site of the Porthaethwy Ferry, it is said to have replaced an earlier inn. In 1919 it was bought by the Normal College authorities, and has since functioned as a hall of residence for students and additional lecture rooms.
