Administrative / Biographical History

Alan Lennox-Boyd was Conservative MP for the Mid-Bedfordshire constituency from 1931 to 1960. He held a number of government appointments at a junior level, and was then appointed Minister of State for Colonial Affairs (1951-1952), Minister for Transport and Civil Aviation (1952-1954), and Secretary of State for the Colonies (1954-1959). In 1951 he became a Privy Councillor, and in 1960 a Companion of Honour. He received a peerage in 1960.
