Scope and Content

Bound photograph album seemingly compiled by Lieutenant Harold De Carteret Falle. The volume features various members of the De Carteret Falle family of the Channel Islands, depicting scenes of life on Jersey, Guernsey and the British mainland.

The album chronicles the family of Lieutenant H. De Carteret Falle R.N.V.R and life on the islands prior to, and during, the First World War. The volume includes images of nursing staff and a large military hospital.

Administrative / Biographical History

Harold de Carteret Falle was born in 1884, the son of Samuel Falle, Dean of Jersey (1854-1937) and Elizabeth Minna, daughter of Austen Gardner of Ash next Sandwich. Samuel Falle was one-time vicar of Bampton, Cumbria.

Harold married Doctor Frances Mabel Huxley MD in 1918 (she was born on 15 April 1884 and died in 1969, her death registered in Bullingdon. At the time of her marriage in 1918 she is recorded as living at 18 York House, London W1. The couple had two daughters: Elizabeth (b 1919) and Patricia (1921-2001).

Harold died in 1965 aged 80, his death registered in Marylebone.
