Edith Hughes maintained a daily journal in which she wrote about her education, teachers, friends and daily routines. She also noted receipt of letters from home, one of which gives the new family address as 30 Elsworthy Road, Primrose Hill. The girls go on various outings which are reported in considerable detail and these included visits to Arles, to the medieval walled town of Aigues Mortes and the Roman bridge of Pont du Gard and a trip to Palavas for sea bathing. The daily entries cease when Edith returned to Paris to meet her family. At the back of the volume are some pencil notes in Edith's hand about Egyptian Antiquities.
