Administrative / Biographical History
Avis Doreen Martin was born on 24 February 1918. She trained as a nurse at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital and the Southmead Hospital, Bristol. She was appointed to serve as a missionary in Papua New Guinea with the London Missionary Society in 1947, and sailed 9 January 1948. She worked at Gemo Hospital, 1948-1949; Kapuna Hospital, 1949-1951; Fife Bay, 1951-1960; Orokolo, 1960-1962; between 1962 and 1963 she was seconded to the Public Health Department; Mailu, 1963-1970; Kwato, 1970-1974, and Koaru, 1975-1976. She resigned from the LMS on 312 July 1976. She married Rev Stanley William Scriven on 9 April 1981.
