Scope and Content

The collection consists of the following series:

Papers relating to the Association of British Spectroscopists (BS/A)

Papers relating to British Radiofrequency Spectroscopy Group Conferences (BS/C)

Papers relating to British Radiofrequency Spectroscopy Group finances (BS/F)

Journals (BS/J)

Papers relating to British Radiofrequency Spectroscopy Group Committee Meetings (BS/M)

Printed papers relating to the history of the British Radiofrequency Spectroscopy Group (BS/P)

Correspondence of the Secretary of the British Radiofrequency Spectroscopy Group (BS/S)

Photographs, CDs and slides (BS/V)

The largest part of the collection consists of papers relating to the BRSG's conferences, particularly books of abstracts of the papers presented. There is also a large quantity of committee meeting papers, together with the Secretary's correspondence files and some financial papers.

Administrative / Biographical History

The British Radiofrequency Spectroscopy Group (BRSG) was established in 1956 to provide a forum for physicists to discuss their research into various branches of radio spectroscopy and magnetic resonance. The Group maintained an informal structure, combining forces only occasionally with other associated bodies. Its meetings were organised by local members in various locations and with a minimum of administration. Despite the Group's title, its mailing list included many scientists from abroad and in 1975 it met in Paris. In 2000 the BRSG affiliated with the Institute of Physics, and changed its name to the 'BRSG: The Magnetic Resonance Group'.

Arrangement

The collection has been divided into series. Within these series, items have been arranged chronologically where possible.
