Administrative / Biographical History

Dr Philip Bliss (1787-1857) was an antiquary and editor. He was on the staff of the Bodleian Library from 1808 to about 1813, and 1822-8. He was Registrar of the University of Oxford (1824-53), Keeper of the Archives (1826-57), and Principal of St. Mary Hall (from 1848 until his death in 1857). Acquisition Information

The volumes were bought from the executors of John Griffiths in 1886 and transferred from the Department of Printed Books in 1921.
