Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Before 1974 Caernarfonshire County Council Social Services Department provided welfare to the disadvantaged in Caernarfonshire, including children, the elderly, blind persons, the mentally ill and the physically handicapped. Gwynedd County Council was established in 1974 as the local authority for Gwynedd, which from 1974 until 1996 comprised the old counties of Anglesey, Caernarfonshire and Merionethshire. Following the reorganization, Gwynedd County Council Social Services Department took over the provision of welfare in Caernarfonshire.
