Financial returns prepared by the Gallery for HM Treasury annually in connection with the Parliamentary Vote, detailing difference between expenditure and grant; a statement of liabilities and assets; a statement showing the balance remaining in the Grant-in-Aid deposit account; a certificate of the surrender of the surplus on the vote and - after 1917 - a certificate of the audit of the Photographic Record Account. The accounts provide information about: portraits purchased; staff costs; admission fees; sales of catalogues, postcards etc.
