Scope and Content

This collection consists almost exclusively of property deeds and copies of wills and other probate records relating to title. There is also a manorial rental and a Land Tax Commissioners' minute book.

The documents were deposited in two parts in November 1977: the first came from the firm's offices in Market Square (Accession 1428), while the second reached us via the National Register of Archives and the Bodleian Library (Accesion 1438), having originally been recovered from offices in Burford in 1954. These latter records were listed previously with the catalogue title 'Ms.D.D.Ravenor'.

The main places in west Oxfordshire covered by the title deeds are Asthall, Bampton (Lew), Brize Norton, Burford, Crawley, Fulbrook, Hailey, Northleigh, Ramsden, Shipton-under-Wychwood and

Witney. The major divisions in the catalogue have been arranged on an alphabetical basis by place; where a bundle of the deeds had been assigned a 'Ravenor' reference, details of this are given.

The sub-headings at document-class level with the letter 'D' as part of the reference code indicate that the group of documents in this section are title deeds to a particular set of premises.

Catalogued by Mark Priddey, Oct.1994.
