Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
In 1723 Charles Pratt devised his freehold estate in Mathern, Monmouthshire, for the purpose of establishing a school for the children of the poor. From 1862 the vicar and churchwardens of the parish became trustees of the charity and in 1863 a new building was opened. In 1936 the Monmouth Diocesan Trust became trustee. Mathern Primary School was closed in 1988. From 1995 the Trust has promoted the education of local residents under the age of 25.
