Autobiography of Patrick Waddington

Patrick Waddington was born in York on 19 August 1901, the grandson of piano manufacturer William Henry Waddington, who had managed York’s Theatre Royal in the 1890s.
An actor and singer, his career spanned more than fifty years in film and television. His first on screen acting role was as Arthur Noel-Vane in the 1926 silent film, ‘If Youth But Knew’. In the 1930s he performed alongside Peggy Cochrane in ‘That Certain Trio’ and in 1958 he appeared in Titanic film ‘A Night to Remember’. He also appeared in two episodes of BBC sitcom Dad’s Army in the 1960s, playing the Brigadier.
Waddington was also a member of York Merchant Adventurers from 1933 and General Secretary of The Actors Charitable Trust (TACT) from 1951.
In 1986 he self-published his autobiography, ‘Patrick: Or, That Awful Warning.
He died on 4 February 1987 at York.
